Abstract
A 31 / Zyear old domestic short hair cat brought to the Madras Veterinary College teaching hospital with
the history of tachypnea, loss of appetite, emaciation.0n clinical examination temperature was 103’F, heart
rate 160/mt,respiration rate 80/mt,pulse rate 160/mt. abdominal palpation revealed no abnormalities.
Heart auscultation revealed muffled heart sound. Cat was subjected to chest and abdominal radiography
its revealed pleural effusion. Thoracic ultrasonography revealed pleural effusion. haemetalogy revealed
no abnormalities. Serum biochemical revealed elevated blood urea nitrogen[12Omg/dl) creatinine was
4.4mg/dl. Thoracentesis was performed at 7"‘ to 8"‘ Intercostal space 150ml of white colour fluid was
aspirated then fluid sent for analysis its revealed triglyceride 550mg/dl cytology revealed chylomicrons
on the slide. Based upon the above result fluid present in the pleural space was confirmed as chyle
after removing 150ml of fluid then the animal treated with rutin 50mg/kg body wt twice a day showed
tremendous response.
