Abstract
The study entitled “Genetic diversity analysis in exotic and indigenous lines of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czern and Coss.]” was conducted to estimate extent and nature of genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic diversity among 75 genotypes during Rabi 2016. Analysis of variance indicated the existence of considerable genetic variation among the material. Genetic divergence enabled grouping of all the 75 genotypes into 15 clusters for 13 different traits. Out of 15 clusters, the cluster I was the largest cluster which contained 46 genotypes. The cluster V had 8 genotypes, cluster III consisted 7 genotypes, and cluster XII included 3 genotypes. The clusters II, IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XIII, XIV and XV were solitary clusters with single genotypes. The highest intra-cluster D2 value were observed for cluster XII (15.51). The average inter cluster D2 values was maximum (38.15) between cluster XII and XV followed by between cluters II and XV (37.27). The cluster II showed highest cluster mean values for seeds yield per plant (28.65g), higher siliquae length (4.78cm) and with bold seed size (6.57g). Cluster XV was superior for days to 50% flowering, day to maturity and plant height. High heritability (broad sense) coupled with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed for 1000-seed weight, seed yield per plant, days to 50% flowering, siliqua length, number of siliquae on main shoot and plant height. Therefore, these traits were found under the control of additive gene and direct selection would be effective and beneficial for further improvement of these traits. The genotypes viz., IC-570302, IC-520747, RH0749, IC122427, EC-766480, EC-766040 and IC-470935 were found promising for seed yield and its main comonents.
