Agricultural price policy has been in existence in India, ever since the Second World War. In the beginning the policy was designed to contain the problem of inflation and shortage of food. Later on the policy was liberalized on the event of increased production. However, systematic approach to price policy emerged only after setting up of the Agricultural Price Commission in 1965. As price-cost relationship of different commodities affects the relative profitability and economic incentive to produce, the parity in cost and prices was one of the main objectives of this commission.en_US
