Indigenous knowledge refers to the unique, traditional, local knowledge existing within and developed around the speciļ¬c conditions of people indigenous to a particular geographic area. It is based on experiences, often tested over centuries of use, adapted to local culture, environment, and dynamics. The use of indigenous knowledge has been considered as an alternative way of promoting development in poor rural communities in many parts of the world (Briggs, 2005). Transfer of indigenous knowledge from generation to generation is mostly done through oral tradition or by demonstration.en_US
