Abstract
The field experiment was laid out in randomized block design to study the effect of sowing date and row spacing on new genotype of soybean during Kharif season of 2015 at the Research Farm of Department of Agronomy, Forages and Grassland Management, CSKHPKV, Palampur. The treatments comprising of 2 genotypes (HIMSO 1685 and Harasoya), 3 dates of sowing (last week of May, 1st week of June and 2nd week of June) and 2 row spacings (45 cm and 60 cm) were replicated thrice. Soil of the experimental site was silty clay loam in texture, acidic in reaction, low in available nitrogen, and medium in available phosphorus and available potassium. Significantly higher absolute growth rate and plant height were recorded in Harasoya sown either during 1st week or 2nd week of June and at 45 cm inter-row spacing. HIMSO 1685 showed significantly higher dry matter accumulation, leaf area index, leaf area duration, net assimilation rate, primary branches per plant, seeds per pod, protein and oil content when it was sown either during last week of May or 1st week of June and at either of the two inter-row spacings except dry matter accumulation which was significantly higher at 45 cm inter-row spacing. The highest leaf area ratio, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate, pods per plant, test weight, biological yield, seed yield, straw yield, dry matter efficiency, unit area efficiency, net returns and B:C ratio were recorded in HIMSO 1685 sown during last week of May and at 45 cm inter-row spacing. Last week of May and 45 cm inter-row spacing were found to be the best agronomic practices for getting higher productivity and profitability of HIMSO 1685 under mid hill conditions of Himachal Pradesh.
