Abstract
Strawberry ( Fragaria ananassa } is a crop of commercial import ance. The importance of this fruit from dietic point of view can hardly be eraphasized. Strawberry fruit provides proteins, fats, lipids, sugar and minerals which are essential for the mail of the health. Strawberry is extensively grown in Mahabaleshwar tehsil as a principal cash crop. However, as yet, it's per hectare yield has not reached to it's maximum, due to constraints faced by strawberry grower? such as technological, economical, extension, supply and marketing. The present investigation was conducted in ten villages from Mahabaleshwar tehsil of Satara district. From each village 15 growers were selected to make a total sample of 150 growers for the present study. The main objective of the investigation was to study the adoption of improved practices of strawberry cultivation by the growers. The study further attempts to examine practices followed by the strawberry growers, marketing aspects, constraints faced and suggestions made by the growers to overcome the constraints faced by them. It was observed that all the respondents were not similar in their characteristics. Some personal socio-economic and psychological characteristics of the respondents were also studied. Regarding the association between adoption level and personal, socio-economic and psychological characteristics. It was found that size of land holding had no relationship with the level of adoption The education, size of family, annual income, experience in farming, social participation, sources of information, economic motivation and risk orientation of the growers had significant relationship with the level of adoption of improved practices. The study revealed that the majority of the strawberry growers were educated, had medium size of family, medium annual income and small size of land holdings. These growers had medium experience in strawberry farming, social participation and medium use of information sources. They had also medium economic motivation and risk orientation.
