GENETIC RESISTANCE TO GASTRO-INTESTINAL NEMATODES IN SHEEP BREEDS OF TAMIL NADU THROUGH CANDIDATE GENE ANALYSIS

Abstract
Gastro-intestinal nematodes are among the most important infections in livestock particularly sheep and goats. Conventional approaches including medication, pasture rotation, sanitation and improved nutrition are no more effective because of the anthelmintic resistance. A potential alternative measure to alleviate the problem is breeding for disease resistance with the goal of enhancing resistance to diseases and selection of livestock with natural or acquired resistance to disease.
