Abstract
ABSTRACT The present investigation entitled “Effect of different concentrations and timings of GA4+7+BA application on fruit set, quality and russet control of apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) cv. Red Velox” was carried out at Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station Mashobra, Shimla during 2021-22. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with eighteen treatments replicated three times. The experimental plants were planted at the spacing of 2.5 ×1.0 m. The observations on various parameters of growth, flowering, fruiting, fruit quality and biochemical parameters were recorded during the period of investigation. The results of present study revealed that different treatments of GA4+7 + BA had a significant effect on fruit quality, set and russet control. The maximum annual shoot growth and leaf area was recorded in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 10ppm. Maximum return bloom was observed in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 1ppm. The plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 5ppm has maximum fruit set percentage. Maximum fruit retention was observed in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 10ppm. Total yield was maximum in treatment GA4+7 + BA @ 7.5ppm. Plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 2.5ppm had maximum yield efficiency. The plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 10ppm had maximum fruit size, fruit weight, fruit volume and fruit firmness. L/D ratio was maximum with GA4+7 + BA @ 25ppm treatment. Russet percentage was minimum when plants were treated with GA4+7 +BA @ 10ppm whereas, the maximum was reported in control. Maximum TSS was observed in plants treated with GA4+7 + BA @ 5 ppm treatment. Titratable acidity was maximum in GA4+7 + BA @ 1 ppm treatment. Total sugars were maximum at GA4+7 + BA @ 5ppm. Maximum reducing sugar was observed in plants treated GA4+7 + BA @ 10ppm and nonreducing sugar was maximum with GA4+7 + BA @ 2.5ppm treatment. Plants treated withGA4+7 + BA @ 2.5ppm had maximum ascorbic acid content. Thus, taking the concentrations and timings of GA4+7 + BA into consideration, GA4+7 + BA @ 10ppm at petal fall and two times later at ten days interval can be recommended for improving fruit quality and reducing russet formation in apple cv. Red Velox.
