dc.description.abstract"Two male sterile lines representing miio {104A) and maldandi (M31-2A) were crossed with 20 diverse genotypes to study the restoration pattern and also to identify the stable restorers across two dates of sowing. The study revealed that, proportion of restorers on milo (75%) was more than that on maldandi (15%) cytoplasm. Of the 20 genotypes, only two were found to be strong and stable on milo cytoplasm while none on maldandi cytoplasm. The seed set % in hybrids sown during 2""^^ date of sowing was less as the flowering period of those hybrids coincided with low temperature stress. To know tho offoct of low temperature on seed sot % , two hybrids each on milo and maldandi were sown at an interval of 15 days from 1^' September to 1^' December, 2000. It was evident that lowest seed set % in hybrids coincided with lowest weekly mean minimum temperature prevailed during flowering of the respective hybrids. Inheritance studies revealed that , fertility restoration on milo is under the control of single dominant geno and that of maldandi is under tho control of duplicate epitasis gene action. In the variability studies, the traits viz., grain yield per plant, plant height, ear head length and number of leaves exhibited high GCV, PCV and high heritability coupled with high genetic advance. Correlation studies indicated that grain yield per plant had strong and positive association with plant height, number of leaves , ear head diameter, number of primaries and tost weight. In the genetic diversity studies, the 138 genotypes were grouped into 13 divergent clusters (four composite and nine solitary). The trait, plant height contributed maximum (69.96%) towards the genetic diversity. In the present study, no definite relationship was seen between googtaphlcal distribution of the genotypes and the genetic diversity."en_US
