A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2013 on red sandy clay loam soil at Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, UAS, Bangalore to study the effect of foliar application of water soluble fertilizers on chickpea. The experiment consisted of fifteen treatments which was replicated thrice in RCBD. The experiment consisted of five concentrations of water soluble fertilizer; no foliar spray or control (T1), Water spray (T2), 2% DAP (T3), [0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% WSF at flowering (T4 to T7), pod development (T8 to T11) and at both flowering as well as pod development stages (T12 to T15)].Results indicated that 1.5% spray of water soluble fertilizer (19:19:19) at flowering and pod development stage along with basal recommended dose (13.5: 25: 25) N, P2O5, K2O significantly increased higher grain yield (1597 kg ha-1) was on par with 2.0 % and was 25.4 % higher as compared to control (1192 kg ha-1). It was also observed that growth parameters (number of branches, leaf area, total dry matter production) yield attributes (pods plant -1, pod weight plant -1, 100 seed weight, haulm yield and uptake of major nutrients (N and K) in chickpea were significantly higher over control and water spray at flowering and pod development. Phosphorus uptake was however higher in 2% DAP sprayed treatment. Foliar application of 1.5 % WSF at flowering and pod development recorded higher gross returns ( 55,895 ha-1), net returns ( 37,120 ha-1) and B: C (2.98) compared to 2%DAP and other lower concentration foliar sprays.en_US
