Abstract
Animal Husbandry along with agriculture, continue to be an integral part of human life since the process of civilization started. Goats were among the first farm animals to be domesticated. The largest number of goats in the world is in China, followed by India. In India, goat population increased from 47 million (1951) to 140.54 million (18th livestock census). During the year 2011-12, Government of Tamil Nadu had launched a project on “Scheme for Priceless
Distribution of Goats and Sheep” for the poorest of poor ill the rural areas to enhance their livelihood opportunities.
