The effect of levels of phosphorus and potassium on growth, yield, nutrient content of finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.), soil nutrient status, fractions of phosphorus and potassium and phosphatase activity was studied in Alfisols of Bangalore rural district. The growth and yield of finger millet crop was significantly higher in treatment 100 % NPK (POP) + FYM + P and K solubilizer (T3). Nutrient content and uptake (major, secondary and micro nutrients) by finger millet crop was also higher in same treatment (T3). A decline in soil pH was recorded with increase in dosage of NPK fertilizers and application of FYM along with biofertilizers. Significant decrease in EC, OC, major, secondary and micronutrients status of soil after harvest of finger millet was noticed in plots treated with fertilizers than in plots treated with FYM along with inorganic and bio-fertilizers. The phosphorus fractions Al-P, Fe-P, Ca-P, Occl-P, Red-P and total-P were high treatment with 100 % NPK + FYM + P and K solubilizer. The water soluble, exchangeable and non exchangeable forms of K were relatively higher due to addition of fertilizers and FYM along with biofertilizers. Acid phosphatase activity was also higher in treatments receiving FYM and biofertilizers along with inorganic fertilizers. Whereas alkaline phosphatase activity recorded was higher in NPK treated plots compared to bio-fertilizer treated plots. Hence the application of recommended doses of fertilizers in combination with FYM and bio-fertilizers helps in maintenance of better soil health and available nutrient status of soil.en_US
