| dc.description.abstract | Mental Health is defined as a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. Academic stress is defined as the anxiety and stress that arises from schooling and education, therefore the study was examined to assess the mental health, academic stress, family environment and relationship of mental health with academic stress and family environment. The study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state in govt. schools of Hisar city and Dobhi village on 200 adolescents of arts and science stream. The sample represents equal number of boys and girls ranging in 16-18 years of age group comprising equal sample size with regards to area of residence and stream of education. Tools used for the research was mental health battery by Singh and Gupta (1983), academic stress scale by Rao (2012) and family environment scale by Bhatia and Chadha (1993). Results revealed that rural respondents had better mental as compared to urban respondents. The results further, highlighted that female and science stream respondents had better mental health than their counterparts. With regards to academic stress, results portray that urban respondents face more academic stress than rural respondents and female respondents perceived more academic stress than their counterparts. Further, results highlighted that rural respondents had better family environment than urban respondents. Results also portray that male respondents perceived low family environment than female respondents. Results found significant and positive correlation between respondent‟s mental health and family environment. Results pinpointed that caste, occupation of father and monthly family income was significantly associated with mental health of respondents. | en_US |
