Abstract
Clinical case is a seven year old female Labrador dog presented to Small Animal Medicine unit
of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Orathanadu. History was anorexia for past 5 days and voiding
dark yellow colored urine. Previousl she was treated for jaundice by a field veterinarian and referred
here for poor response. Physical examination revealed dullness and icterus of all visible mucus membrane.
Peripheral blood smear revealed Babesia gibsoni. Hematology revealed anemia and thrombocytopenia.
Serum biochemical analysis revealed elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase and
hyperbilirubinemia. On abdominal ultrasound examination, the dog had hepato-splenomegaly, distended gall
bladder with cholecystitis. The case was diagnosed as Babesia gibsoni with concurrent Cholecystitis and
hepatitis in a Labrador and successfully treated with Intravenous Clindamycin along with supportive.
