Abstract
A field experiment was conducted on Alfisols of Tirupati canpus of Andhra PJ;adesh Agricultural university to study the prospects of fingennillet and sunflower as relay and sequence systans with groundnut as main crop under rainfed Calditions using . . split plot design, replicated thrice. The treatments consisted of four dates of groundnut planting (June first fortnight, June secaid fortnight, July first fortnight and July second fortnight) as main-plot treabnents and four cropping systans ( relay and sequence cro:i:;ping system., of f ingennillet and sunflower) as sub-plot treatments. F.ach delay in groundnut planting decreased the plant height and LAI of groundnut at all the stages of crop grc:Mth. These grc:Mth parameters contributed for higher dry matter production with the earliest date of planting. Number of flowers ( 46. 8) , number of pegs (20.8), total pods (10.9) and filled pods (7.8) per plant were high due to June first fortnight planting. Hundred pod (67.1 g) and hundred kernel weight (29.6 g) and shelling percentage (73. 7) were also ยท higher with earliest date of planting. All these yield attributes contributed significantly to higher pod (1487 kg ha-1 ) and haulm yield (2648 kg ha-1 ) and harvest index (36.3) of groundnut due to June first fortnight planting.
