Abstract
The study on production and quality characteristics of consumer chemicals was conducted during the year 2015-16 to assess the quality characteristics of consumer chemicals and acceptance by the consumers in the market. The total sample comprises 120 samples from Dharwad city. The results revealed that, Surf excel detergent powder, Vim liquid dish wash, Dettol and Life buoy liquid hand wash, Lysol liquid floor cleaner, Black Belt and Trishul phenyl were found to be the fast moving cleansing agents in the market. Higher percentage of the homemakers purchased consumer chemicals monthly from kirani stores and preferred Surf excel detergent powder (41.67 %) due to easy to wash and use in machine. About 70 per cent of the homemakers preferred Vim liquid dish wash because of its evenly cleaning nature, followed by Dettol liquid hand wash (58.34 %). The experimental results showed that acceptable limits in physical and chemical properties. Further the Detergent powder was found to be best with respect to solubility, surface tension, foam height, stability and cleaning action followed by Liquid dish wash, Liquid hand wash, Liquid floor cleaner and phenyl. And also the analysis of antimicrobial activity was in permissible limits against Staphylococcus aureus and Escheria coli. Regarding acceptance of developed consumer chemicals by homemakers found to be highly satisfied with respect to price, quality and cleaning performance. The developed products are effective with no side effects on human tissue.
