Abstract
The investigation entitled “Effect of FYM and doses of NPK on growth, yield and quality characters of potato cultivars” was carried out to examine the response of FYM and NPK doses on growth, yield and quality characters of potato cultivars. Another aspect was to know the effect of treatments on economics of potato cultivation. The field experiment was conducted at Vegetable Research Centre, Pantnagar during autumn- winter season 2003 – 2004. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications and eighteen treatment combinations. The observations of growth characters were recorded at different growth stages. While yield and yield attributes and quality characters were recorded at /after harvesting of the crop. The data were analysed for standard error of mean and critical difference at 5 per cent level of significance. Analysis of variance of treatment combination revealed significant differences for all the characters except plant height, number of haulms per plant, number of leaves per plant, tuber yield per plot (kg), total tuber yield (q/ha), average tuber weight (g) and tuber yield per plant (kg). Based on the findings of present investigation variety Kufri Sutlej with 120 : 75 : 90 Kg NPK/ha +10t FYM/ha was found superior for maximum tuber yield as compared to rest of the treatment followed by Kufri Badshah with 80 : 50 : 60 Kg NPK/ha + 10 t/ha FYM. But the later treatment gave maximum CB ratio, hence on the basis of study Kufri Sutlej with 120 : 75 : 90 Kg NPK /ha +10 t/ha FYM for getting maximum tuber yield and Kufri Badshah with 80 : 50 : 60 Kg NPK /ha +10 t/ha FYM can be recommended for getting maximum C.B ratio.
