Abstract
The overall performance of Madras Red sheep reared under field condition was recorded during 2003-04. The mean body weight of ewes at breeding was 26.94±0.03 kg and lambing percent was 83.25. The overall birth, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month and 12-month body weight was 2.67±0.006, 9.69±0.028, 14.34±0.035, 17.55±0.055 and 21.20±0.080 kg, respectively. The average daily weight gain during 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months and 9-12 months was 69.99±0.23, 44.56±0.23, 32.60±0.55 and 33.11±0.14 g, respectively. The average daily weight gain was significant for the post-weaning and adult between seasons. The body weight, except at birth in Madras Red sheep, showed significant difference between the seasons. Sex had significant influence on body weight at all stages of growth.
