Abstract
Subulura brumpti the only ascarid worm with an indirect life cycle, occurs in the caeca of the fowl, turkey, guinea fowl and wild related birds in Africa, North and South America and Asia. In India Bhalerao (1941) recorded S. minetti in the intestine of fowl from Jaipur. From Madras, Ramanujachari and Alwar (1954) recorded S. brumpti in the caecum of fowl. while Alwar and Lalitha (1961) recorded it in the caecum of turkey. Shastri et aI. (1974) recorded S. brumpti from caeca in 8 out of 30 fowls (26.7%) in Maharashtra Ruff (1984) considered S. minetti as a synonym of S brumpti. Perusal of available literature indicates that the incidence of S brumpti in hybrid layers has not been studied in Tamil Nadu. Hence the study was undertaken at Namakkal, Tamil Nadu which is an important poultry belt area in Tamil Nadu.
