A field experiment entitled “Feasibility of mechanized weed management in rainfed cluster bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.)” was conducted at Regional research station, Bawal (Rewari), Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana) during kharif season 2018. The design of the experiment was Randomized Block Design with three replications and ten treatments. The experimental field was infested with Cyperus rotundus (45 %), Digera arvensis (23 %), Trianthema portulacastrum (18 %) and other weeds (12 %) at 20 DAS and Cyperus rotundus (42 %), Digera arvensis (16 %), Trianthema portulacastrum (15 %), Eragrostis spp. (14 %) and other weeds (26 %) at 80 DAS. Mechanized (T3, T4, T5 and T6) and manual (T1, T2, T8 and T10) weed control techniques significantly reduced the weed density and dry matter accumulation of weeds in cluster bean and produced higher grain yield than that of weedy check (T7 and T9). Grain yield and growth parameters (plant height, leaf area index and dry matter accumulation plant-1) of cluster bean with twice mechanized interculture (at 20 and 35 DAS) performed with power weeder (T6) and tractor drawn cultivator (T5) under row spacing of 60 cm were found superior over recommended once manual weeding either with kasola (T1) or wheel hand hoe (T2) carried out at 27 DAS under 45 cm row spacing. Weed control efficiency was also higher under T6 (94.1, 95.6, 90.2 & 86.3 %) and T5 (90.9, 91.5, 88.3 & 83.5 %) over T1 (16.0, 66.0, 63.7 & 61.5 %) and T2 (2.45, 63.6, 61.3 & 59.8 %) at 20, 40, 60 and 80 days crop stage, respectively. The treatment T5 proved to be most economical with maximum net returns (Rs. 36076 ha-1) and B:C (2.37) in comparison to other treatments followed by treatment T6 that fetched net return of Rs. 35868 ha-1 with B:C of 2.25.en_US
