Abstract
Vembur Sheep is a hairy mutton
breed of Tamil Nadu, distributed in Vembur,
Melakaranthai, Keezhakarandhai,
Nagalapuram, Kavundanpatty, Achangulam
and some other villages of Pudur and
Vilathikulam panchayat union areas of
Thoothukudi district. The colour is white
with irregular red or tan patches on all over
the body. Birth weight and body
measurements in sheep have considerable
importance to decide the selection of
replacement stock. The information on
Vembur sheep is scanty, therefore this study
was undertaken to know the influence of
non-genetic factors on birth weight and body
measurement of Vembur lambs born under
farm condition.
