Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Studies on soil and foliar application of boron on soilproperties, growth, yield and quality of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.)” was carriedout in farmers field during Rabi 2021. The experiment was laid out in a RCBD with tentreatments replicated thrice. The results indicated significantly higher plant height (38.41 cm),number of loose leaves (16), plant spread in E-W (72.34 cm) and N-S direction (77.91 cm),chlorophyll content (67.83 SPAD reading), TSS (4.25⁰ Brix), ascorbic acid (52.59 mg 100g-1),crude fiber (16.09 %) and head yield (37.11 t ha-1) were recorded in treatment which receivedRDF+FYM+6.0 kg ha-1 B through borax as soil application + 0.25 % B through boric acid asfoliar application (T10) whereas lowest plant height (28.98 cm), number of loose leaves per plant(11), plant spread in E-W (45.78 cm) and N-S direction (28.57 cm), chlorophyll (44.94 SPAD reading), TSS (3.46⁰ Brix), ascorbic acid (36.34 mg 100g-1), crude fiber (10.29%) and head yield(27.39 t ha-1) was recorded in T1 (RDF+FYM). Higher boron content in leaves one week afterfoliar spray (55.36 mg kg-1) and at harvest (56.16 mg kg-1) was recorded in the treatment T10. Theboron content in heads of cabbage at harvest (52.00 mg kg-1) and boron uptake by cabbage (192.19 g ha-1) was significantly higher in T10 treatment. Significantly higher available boron insoil at harvest of cabbage (2.07 mg kg-1) was recorded in T5 treatment (RDF +FYM+8.0 ha-1boron through borax as soil application).December,
