Brinjal is an important warm season vegetable crop of the world, India and Karnataka. Among the major diseases, root knot caused by Meloidogyne incognita is a limiting factor in commercial production of the crop. The problem is aggravated by the association of the nematode with other soil micro organisms such as Ralstonia solanacearum leading to disease complex. Out of six brinjal cultivars screened for M. incognita-R. solanacearum wilt disease complex under field conditions, cultivar Arka Neelkanth showed moderately resistant reaction to wilt complex. It recorded 14 per cent wilt incidence and 68 galls/plant and 48.25 egg masses/root system. Arka Shirish was highly susceptible to wilt complex. It recorded 87.5 % wilt, 178 galls/plant and 128 egg masses per root system. Interaction studies of R. solanacearum and M. incognita revealed that inoculation of M. incognita, 15 days prior to the inoculation of R. solanacearum led to maximum wilt incidence (100 %) followed by combined inoculation of both the pathogens simultaneously (75 %). Among the treatments tested to manage wilt complex under field condition, mustard intercrop + streptocycline @ 0.5 g/lit + COC 50% WP (1g/lit) reduced bacterial wilt incidence (23.35%). It recorded 63.33 galls/root system which accounted to 72.54 per cent reduction over control and recorded an yield of 1.92 kg/25 m2 followed by mustard intercrop + P. fluorescens @ 20g/m2 (1×108) which was effective in reducing wilt by 28.35 per cent. It recorded 51.66 galls/root system which accounted to 77.60 per cent reduction over control and recorded 1.78 kg/25 m2. Department of Planten_US
