Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Character association and genetic divergence studies in indigenous lines of wheat (Triticum aestivum L. em. Thell.) was undertaken to (i) Estimate the extent of variability in the indigenous lines of wheat. (ii) Estimate the correlation coefficient among various characters, (iii) Find out direct and indirect effects of yield components on grain yield by path coefficient analysis and (iv) To examine genetic diversity among collection. In the present investigation, 135 indigenous lines of wheat along with 5 checks were evaluated in timely sown and irrigated conditions during Rabi, 2012-13. The trial was conducted in augmented design having 4 block of 35 plots each, at the main experiment station of Narendra deva university of agriculture and technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad. The characters studied were Days to 50% flowering, Flag leaf area (cm2), Spike length (cm), Plant height (cm), Tillers/plant, Peduncle length (cm), Days to maturity, 1000-grain weight (g), Biological yield/plant (g), Grain yield/plant (g), Harvest index (%). The data on 11 characters was utilized for estimation of mean, range and correlations, path coefficients and genetic divergence.
