Abstract
The rhizosphere is the region around the root system of higher plants inhabited by
a vast community of microorganisms under the influence of root exudates. It is a highly
favorable habitat for the activities and metabolisms of various microorganisms. It is also
said to be the core of collection of different diversified groups of both beneficial and
harmful microorganisms colonizing near the root surface which leads to plant growth
promoting and diseases incidence activities. Therefore, it is necessary to study the
diversity of microorganisms either collectively or individually. It mainly emphasizes not
only to know the functional diversity but also co-relation between the organisms within
the ecosystem. The population of these microorganisms mainly depends on the soil type,
texture, structure, type of plants grown, root exudates and other microbial interactions in
the ecosystem. The various activities carried out by the soil microorganisms are in
biogeochemical reactions, recycling of organic wastes, photosynthesis, plant growth
promotion and detoxification of various pollutants either occurring naturally or
introduced artificially.
