| dc.description.abstract | Poplar (Populus deltoides Bartr.) is one of the most important agroforestry tree species in the states of northern India. The present investigation was conducted on two set of prominating poplar clone having thirteen and forty two treatments planted in the new site of Agroforestry Research Centre at Haldi, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. The objectives of the study were to study the variability for different growth characteristics and to identify the prominent clones through morphologica markers. Observations were recorded on five competitive trees for height, diameter, and number of leaves, leaf pigmentations and leaf colour and were subjected to appropriate analysis. Significant genotypic variability was observed for all the characters. Wide range of mean value was observed. In the month of November, significant and positive correlation was observed between plant height and diameter, but number of leaves were not found significant in the month of November when it interact with other months except the month of October. Monthly increment was also observed in height, diameter and number of leaves. Highest increment for height, diameter and number of leaves were observed for set I in the month of September, March and June respectively and for set II, it was observed in November, September and June, respectively In the month of November, diameter and height, number of leaves and height and diameter and number of leaves were significant with most of the month. Morphological markers showed that different clones posses’ peculiar morphological distinctions. | en_US |
