Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Effect of different growing conditions and genotypes on growth and flowering of Asiatic lily” was conducted during 2019-2020 at Agri-tourism Centre CCSHAU, Hisar, Haryana. The experiment comprised of 12 treatments i.e. three growing conditions (polyhouse, shade-net and open field) and four varieties (Courier White, Tresor, Red Stone and Nova Lux) with three replication. The results revealed that the var. Tresor performed better in vegetative and floral parameters as compared to other varieties viz. Courier White, Nova Lux and Red Stone resulting in early bulb sprouting (5.11 days), early floral bud emergence (54.11days), early colour change of first floral bud (103.08 days) and early opening of first flower (111.82 days). Var. Red Stone also performed better as compared to other two varieties resulting in maximum weight of bulbs/plant (59.03 g), and also observed next to the var. Tresor in various parameters viz. days taken to bulb sprouting, plant height, number of leaves/plant, leaf length, days taken to emergence of flower bud, floral bud length, floral bud diameter, stem length, stem diameter, diameter of bulb and number of bulblets/plant which were observed maximum in var.Tresor. However, the maximum leaf width (2.33 cm) and number of flowering buds/plant (6.97) were recorded in var. Nova Lux and the maximum flower diameter (20.02 cm) was observed in var. Courier white. Out of the three growing conditions, Asiatic lily cultivated under polyhouse was observed to be performing better in vegetative and floral parameters than the shade-net as well as open field conditions, resulting in early bud emergence (49.83 days), early colour change of first floral bud (99.32 days), early opening of first flower (101.61 days ) and in addition to these, the maximum plant height (107.10 cm), number of leaves (66.57) & flowering buds (5.06) per plant, floral bud diameter (3.42 cm), flower diameter (20.59 cm) and stem length (100.00 cm) was also observed under polyhouse. However, the various bulb parameters as well as leaf length (9.74 cm), leaf width (2.32 cm) and floral bud length (9.89 cm) were recorded maximum under shade-net, whereas the maximum stem diameter (1.05 cm) was recorded under open field. The interaction of varieties and growing conditions also influenced few characters in asiatic lily. Henceforth, the var. Tresor and Red Stone grown under polyhouse comparatively performed better than the other varieties and growing conditions in vegetative and floral parameters, but these two varieties when grown under the shade-net comparatively performed better in bulb parameters.
