dc.description.abstractThe study examined production and marketing of garlic in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. In District Sirmaur people mainly depends upon agriculture for their living and garlic is one of the most important crop grown in the district. In this study various production and marketing problems, selling procedure, cost of cultivation, marketing cost and factors affecting production and marketing of garlic is studied. The study showed that the main production problems for garlic is cultivation is unfavorable weather condition, higher wages rate of skilled labour, higher fertilizer price and main marketing problems is long chain of middlemen's High commission charges and delay in payments. The selling procedure of respondents is mainly through middlemen's. The study also shows that majority of respondents in the district grows garlic between 1-1.5 bigha of land. The study reported that mostly respondents said there is good demand of garlic in the market. As half of respondents complain about the lack of storage facility. It was also observed that the main source of information for respondents for garlic cultivation and marketing is through friends, TV or Newspapers.
