Fixed bed regenerators are the heat exchangers used for transferring heat from hot fluid to cold fluid using solids as intermittent storage medium. The heat exchange process for fixed bed regenerators completes in two cycles, i.e. heating cycle and cooling cycle. The heat transfer process in the heat regenerator can be expressed in the form of coupled partial differential equations (solid phase and fluid phase). A mathematical model is proposed to describe the temperature distribution over the bed length. In present work the governing equations are solved by Finite Difference Method (FDM) and Wavelet method using MATLAB software. Methodology based on Sparse Point Representation (SPR) is used to adapt the effective grid pattern using wavelet transformation. Temperature profiles along bed length and for different planes of regenerator bed are drawn with various superficial air velocities, for both the methods. Modified grid patterns at different time levels are represented with the help of appropriate figures. It is observed that use of wavelet transformation in numerical solution increases the effectiveness of the method. Complexities of the solving method decreases due to large number of solving equations are eliminated from solution matrix. Grid adaptation scheme based on wavelet tool increase the grid density in region of steep changes and decreases grid density in the smooth region. Wavelet based method takes less computational time as compare to Finite Difference Method. It is observed that the computational time decreases by 29.67%, when simulating for the case of superficial air velocity of 0.08 m/sec.en_US
