Abstract
A 6 year old pleuriparous cross bred cow was presented with the history of straining, frequent and failure attempts of defecation, stranguria, propulsion of vagina and rectum since early morning. On clinical examination, the animal had dyschezia, tenesmus, stranguria and empty rectum. Serum and whole blood samples were collected and sent for laboratory. PCR examina-tion for BVD was negative. Plate agglutination along with culture and isolation of whole blood and feces confirmed Salmonella spp. infection. The animal was treated with rectal douche with alum, kaolin and ferric sulphate, ice fomenta-tion, parenteral ciprofloxacin and prednisolone and epidural lignocaine. Uneventful recovery was noticed on third day of therapy.
