A field experiment to study the spacing and fertilizer levels on growth and productivity of stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bert.) was carried out at Division of Horticulture, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore during 2006 to 2007. The treatments consisted of three levels viz.30 x22.5 cm,45 x22.5 cm and 60 x 22.5cm as main and four levels of fertilizer (40:20:30 kg NPK +FYM @10 t ha-1, 70:35:45 kg NPK + FYM @10 t ha-1, 100:45:60 kg NPK + FYM @10 t ha-1 and @20 t ha-1) as sub treatments. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. Among the different spacings, the spacing of 45 x 22.5cm recorded significant plant height (52.85 cm) in 60DAP and number of branches per plant (43.90), leaf area (19.99cm2), fresh leaf yield (13,005.12kg, 13,379.35kg and 13,944.60kg) per hectare, dry leaf yield (2,691.97kg, 2,882.14kg and 3,025.18kg) per hectare and stevioside content (11.64 %) were recorded. Among the major nutrients, significant plant height (60.40cm, 44.38cm and 45.07cm), number of branches (47.23, 49.96 and 49.26) per plant, number of leaves (540.42, 487.27 and 496.20) per plant, plants spread (313.38cm2, 405.70cm2 and 489.27cm2) and leaf area (20.33cm2, 21.73 cm2 and 23.22cm2) were obtained under the application of 70:35:45 kg NPK +FYM @10 t ha-1. In yield parameters the same treatment also showed maximum fresh leaf yield (6.56kg, 6.87kg and 7.14kg) per plot, dry leaf yield (1.35kg, 1.42kg and 1.48kg) per plot, fresh leaf yield (13,498.47kg, 14,130.06kg and 14,498.48kg) per hectare, dry leaf yield (2,780.92kg, 2,927.51kg and 3,041.11kg) per hectare of three harvest and stevioside (11.68 %) content in the leaves of stevia. Thus, from the present investigation, it can be concluded that planting of stevia at 45 x 22.5 cm with the application of 70:35:45 kg NPK per ha was found to be optimum.en_US
