dc.research.problem• Occurrence of pyometra was maximum in nulliparous female dogs (67%). • Maximum cases of pyometra were in between 4-8 years of age (44%). • In pyometra animals there was marked reduction in rectal temperature, respiration rate, heart rate and systolic blood pressure after completion of treatment because of decreased septicaemia and removal of endotoxins from the body. • Haematology of pyometra animals before the start of treatment revealed leucocytosis along with increased neutrophils count and decreased lymphocyte count. Anaemia was evident in pyometra cases due to decreased total erythrocyte count and haemoglobin concentration. • In pyometra animals increased values of BUN, creatinine and SDMA indicate the decreased efficiency of kidneys to remove nitrogenous wastes from circulation. • Groups II & IV having PGF2α S/C, Prolactin inhibitor and Anti-Progesterone agents showed maximum beneficial effect and recovery of pyometra after the end of treatment as revealed by USG and haematology. • Supplementation with nephroprotective drugs in Group IV revealed marked reduction in BUN, Creatinine, SDMA, total protein and albumin as compared to other groups where no supplementation of nephroprotective drug was provided. • Group III having PGF2α via intravaginal route showed minimal/no side effect but duration of treatment was prolonged for complete recovery of animals. • Complete clinical recovery was not seen in dogs suffering with CEH Pyometra complex, so they were shifted to OH. • Cardiac arrhythmias and abnormalities on ECG recording are suggestive of myocardial injury. Further studies are necessary to confirm the exact incidence of myocardial damage associated with pyometra. • Microbiological examination revealed the presence of Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas and inactive E. coli in uterine pus sample, further confirmation is still required through molecular examination.
