| dc.description.abstract | The present study was carried out to study the price instability in major food products of India, to study the relationship between prices and relevant factors and to study the integration among different food products markets in India. Rice, Wheat Flour, Potato, Sugar, Onion, Mustard Oil, Milk, Vanaspati Ghee, Salts And Tea were the selected food products for the study as they occupied a prominent place in the our daily food consumption. Data was collected on annual average retail prices, for a period of 12 years from 2009-2010 to 2019-2020. Secondary data of Monthly Average Retail Prices were collected for a period of 12 years from January 2009 to December 2020. The data was secondary and hence collected from Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Governmental of India. For evaluation of different objectives, Coppockās instability index, least square trend line method, 12-months moving average method, coefficient of variation, moving average method, and correlation studies were carried out. Highest price instability during the entire study period was observed for onion and the lowest for tea. Long term trend of the monthly prices for all the selected food products showed an increasing trend. Seasonal variations showed that prices were low in their harvesting seasons and high in during their off seasons. The results of market integration for all food products suggested highest integration between all selected markets for different products. Though all the selected market pairs had positive relationship and showed significant relationship. | en_US |
