The present investigation entitled “Effect of crop establishment method and different source of Zinc on growth, yield and quality of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cv Pusa-44” was conducted at the Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India during rainy (Kharif) season of 2013 with a view to test the comparative performance of different methods of crop establishment viz. farmer’s practice, wetland transplanting and SRI and four different source of Zinc. i.e. Zn1 (ZnSO4.7H2O), Z2 (Zn-EDTA) and Z3 (ZnSO4.H2O). The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three main plot treatments and four sub plot treatment consisting of 12 treatment combinations. Various observations were recorded during the course of investigation including growth characters; yields attributes and yield as affected by crop establishment method and different sources of Zinc. Growth parameters were recorded at various phenological stages starting from 30 DAT followed by 60, 90 DAT and at harvest which included plant height, number of tillers hill-1, leaf area index and dry matter accumulation hill-1. Similarly number of yield attributes like panicle length, panicle weight, test weight, No. of panicles per m2, grain and straw yield and total uptake of the nutrients, were also noted to assess the effect of treatment. And similarly the quality parameters like protein content (%), carbohydrate (CH2O)n and protein yield (Kg/ha) were also noted to assess the effect of treatments. Rice variety Pusa-44 responded favourably to the crop establishment method i.e. SRI for achieving higher yield at Varanasi. Individually zinc application ZnSO4.7H2O @ 10 kg ha-1 (half through soil as basal and rest half through foliar spray at 1% concentration on 30 DAT) be made for higher productivity and enriched rice quality of high nutritional value. Individually application of Zn-EDTA @ 1 kg ha-1 (half through soil as basal and rest half through foliar spray at 0.5% concentration on 30DAT) be followed for higher productivity and greater nutritional value. Application of ZnSO4.H2O @ 5 kg ha-1 (2.5 kg through soil as basal and 2.5 kg through foliar spray at 0.5% concentration on 30 DAT) be made to get higher productivity and greater nutritional value.en_US
