Abstract
Conventionally, sperm mortality
assessment is carried out on phase contrast
microscope by visual approximation of
proportion of progressively moving
spermatozoa, which however does not
eliminate the human error/bias. In recent
years, rapid development has taken place in
designing sophisticated equipment and
procedures for semen evaluation. The use of
computer assisted semen analysis (CASA)
has given a new dimension to evaluation of
quality of spermatozoa (Amann and
Hammerstedt 1980; Tuli et al., 1992; Tardiff
et al., 1998). Besides assessment of motility,
CASA facilitates evaluation of sperm motion
and morphological characteristics, which
would not otherwise be possible by
conventional methods. Therefore, a study
was undertaken to assess the effect of
cryopreservation on the sperm characteristics
of goat spermatozoa by CASA technique.
