The storage potential of four wheat genotypes viz., DWR-162, DWR-1006, UAS-304, UAS-415 was studied with ten seed treatments with botanicals and chemicals packed in cloth bag and stored under ambient conditions from May 2011- February 2012. DWR-162 recorded significantly higher seed germination, lower seed infestation, higher 100 seed weight, lower loss in seed weight, higher field emergence, higher seed protein content, lower seed moisture content, higher seedling vigour index and lower electrical conductivity at the end of 12 months of storage. Irrespective of genotypes, seeds treated with vitavax @ 3g/kg of seeds recorded significantly higher seed germination (85.82%), lower seed infestation, higher 100 seed weight, lower loss in seed weight, and higher field emergence, higher seed protein content, lower seed moisture content, higher seedling vigour index, and lowest electrical conductivity of seed leachate followed by seeds treated with sweet flag rhizome powder and bleaching powder at the end of twelve months of storage. As per Minimum Seed Certification Standard, DWR-162 maintained satisfactory germination (87.30%) upto 10 months and seeds treated with vitavax (85.82%) upto 12 months of storage. The interaction combination of DWR-162 seeds treated with vitavax powder recorded higher seed germination and other seed quality parameters. Varietal characterization of 20 wheat genotypes was carried out based on seed coat colour, seed shape, test weight, brush hair length, coleoptile anthocyanin colouration, plant growth habit, foliage colour, flag leaf attitude, days to ear emergence, plant waxiness, flag leaf waxiness of sheath, blade and ear, flag leaf length and width, plant height, ear density, ear colour, awn length, awn colour and awn attitude. The seeds were also differentiated with chemical tests like phenol, NaOH and KOH, seedling growth response to GA3 and 2,4-D. Based on the colour of the solution, phenol test was found to be very useful for differentiating genotypesen_US
