Abstract
The current research work was programmed with the objective of studying the diagnostic significance of expression of metastatic markers E-cadherin, MMP- 2 and C-erbB2 in canine mammary tumours. The study showed occurrence of 229 neoplastic conditions of which 80 dogs (75 females and 5 males) had mammary tumours, with a population incidence of 0.11 per cent. The per cent incidence of mammary tumour among the tumour cases was 34.94. The highest incidence of mammary tumour was observed in the age range 8 to <12 years (50%). The tumour occurrence was high in pure breeds of dogs (73.75%) in which Spitz (32.20%) was predominantly affected. Intact females (92%) were mostly affected compared to the spayed dogs. The inguinal (42.31% in females; 60% in males) and caudal abdominal glands (40.38% in females; 40% in males) were predominantly affected. Anaemia, leukocytosis with neutrophilia, increased total protein, ALP and calcium and decreased creatinine and albumin were found in the tumour bearing dogs.
