Abstract
The study was undertaken on 350 Tellichery crossbred kids maintained under intensive system at Livestock Research Station, Kattupakkam, Tamil Nadu, for the period from 1991 to 1994 and 1997 to 2001. The average birth weight of Tellichery kid was 1.97 ± 0.06kg. The male kids had higher birth weight than female ie., 2.02 ± 0.06 and 1.93 ± 0.06kg, respectively. The kids born as single (2.06 ± 0.05kg) were heavier than those born as twins (1.88 ± 0.07kg). The kids born during northeast monsoon (2.09 ± 0.08kg) weighed heavier, followed by summer (2.01 ± 0.08kg), winter (1.93 ± 0.06kg) and southwest monsoon (1.87 ± 0.08kg). The year of birth also showed significant (P<0.01) effect on birth weight.
