Rosuvastatin, a new statin is indicated for the treatment of dyslipidemia. The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of rosuvastatin in normal and high fat-high cholesterol diet fed (dyslipidemic) hamsters. The study was conducted on 86 male Golden Syrian hamsters. The animals were administered with rosuvastatin at 1, 10, 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg doses in normal diet fed hamsters and at 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mg/kg doses in high fat high cholesterol diet fed hamsters. The animals were observed throughout the experimental period for any toxic manifestation and daily body weight was recorded to see the effect. At 0, 7th and 14th days of treatment, animals were subjected to blood collection and serum sample were analyzed for different biochemical parameters. At the end of treatment period animals were sacrificed and necropsy was performed, and tissues were collected (heart, liver, kidney and muscle) for histopathological studiesen_US
