dc.description.sponsorship | Eighteen CE outbreaks were recorded among sheep (6 outbreaks) and goats (12 outbreaks) during the period from 2004-2007 in different localities of Tamil Nadu. The lesions appeared mostly on the muzzle and mucocutaneous junction of the lips, sometimes also on the gums and tongue especially in kids. The average morbidity rate reported in goats was 18.93 per cent and 21.50 per cent in sheep while the average mortality rate was 2.53 per cent in goats and 1.10 per cen in sheep. CE viruses like particles were observed under electron microscope with characteristic surface tubules giving the appearance of cocoon shape and the size of the virion particle was analyzed. Contagious ecthyma outbreaks were confirmed by PCR technique using CEV specific primers and a 140 bp size amplicon was obtained. | en_US |
