Abstract
Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) (2n=130) is known in many English-speaking countries as lady's fingers or gumbo and it is a flowering plant in the Malvaceae family. Okra is cultivated for its fibrous fruits or pods containing round, white seeds. The fruits are harvested when immature and used as a vegetable. Okra fruit can be cooked in a variety of ways.
