Prevalence of Gastrointestinal Parasites in Small Ruminants in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Abstract
Out of 344 faecal samples collected from sheep (145) and goats (199), 83.43% were found to show gastrointestinal (GI) parasites in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites was almost similar in sheep (83.45%) and goats (83.41%). Mixed infection (58.9%) was more than the single infection (41.1%). Among the single infection, oocyst of Eimeria species (71.18%) was found to be more common followed by Strongyloides spp (13.56%), Strongyle (12.71%), Trichuris spp (1.69%) and amphistomes (0.84%).
