A field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2013 at ZARS, V. C. Farm, Mandya, to study the effect of enriched urban solid waste compost on soil properties, yield and uptake of nutrients by rice in submerged soil. The experiment was laid out in RCBD, with eleven treatments with and without enriched compost and FYM were replicated thrice. The results revealed that the available nutrients viz., N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S and DTPA extractable micronutrients Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe in the soil recorded significantly higher values in the treatment 100 % NPK + Urban Compost at 10 t ha-1 and was on par with 50 % N + 100 % PK + 50 % N through enriched Urban Compost compared to 100 % NPK alone. Significantly higher number of N fixer and P solubilizer were observed in soil due to treatment 100 per cent N through Enriched Urban Compost + 100 % PK compared to 100 % NPK alone. Significantly higher growth and yield attributes of rice were recorded with 100 % NPK + Urban Compost at 10 t ha-1 which was on par with 50 % N + 100 % PK + 50 % N through enriched Urban Compost. The higher net returns and cost benefit ratio were recorded on application of 50 % N + 100 % PK + 50 % N through Enriched Urban Compost compared to 100 % NPK alone. Studies showed that enriched urban compost is a viable organic nutrient source for rice under submerged condition.en_US
