dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT The present investigation titled, “Diallel analysis in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.)” was carried out at the Experimental Farm, Department of Vegetable Science, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, HP, India during Kharif of 2021 and 2022 to study the mean performance, heterosis, combining ability including reciprocal effects, and nature and magnitude of gene action for yield and quality traits in chilli. The experimental material used in the present study comprised of seven diverse chilli genotypes, which were crossed in full diallel during Kharif, 2021 to obtain forty-two cross combinations. The forty-two F1 crosses along with seven parental genotypes and check DKC-8 were evaluated in RCBD with three replications during Kharif, 2022. The analysis of variance showed highly significant differences among the genotypes for all the traits under study. The top five hybrid combinations for fruit yield per plant (g) showing significant positive heterosis over standard check and better parent were UHF-Selection-2 × UHF-CHI-17 (718.69g), UHF-Selection-2× UHF-Selection-14 (702.52g), UHF-CHI-17 × UHF-CHI-11 (678.89g), UHF-Selection-14× UHF-CHI-11 (656.38g), UHF-Selection-14 × UHF-CHI-13 (570.81g). The parental genotypes; UHF-Selection-2 and UHF-Selection-14 were superior based on their general combining ability effects. The crosses UHF-Selection-2 × UHF-CHI- 17 and UHF-Selection-14 × UHF-CHI-11 were good specific combiners for most of the traits. The reciprocal specific combining ability effects were significant for all the characters studied and the reciprocal crosses viz., UHF-CHI-17 × UHF-Selection-2 and UHF-Selection- 2 × UHF-Selection-14 were good reciprocal specific combiners for the majority of traits. The non-additive gene action was predominant for the inheritance of the majority of the characters. | |
