The present investigation was carried out at the research area of the Department of Agroforestry at CCS Haryana Agricultural University during the rabi season of 2002-03. The experiment consisting of four varieties viz., Sonak, Sonalika, PBW373 and WH291 and three distances from the tree line/border viz., 0.0-1.0 m, 1.0-2.0 m and 2.0-3.0 m was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications each for wheat sown under eucalypts and wheat alone. Growth and yield attributes and consequently grain and straw yields of wheat were significantly less under eucalypts than sole wheat. Among the late sown wheat varieties, PBW 373 was found most compatible with eucalypts. Whereas in control PBW 373 and Sonak varieties were at par with each other. The yield of wheat varieties increased significantly with increasing distance from the tree line in agroforestry. However, in control no such increase was observed. Economic analysis of the systems revealed that after considering the returns from eucalypts, agroforestry was found more beneficial than raising of sole wheat.en_US
