STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ROOFING PATTERNS ON THE PERFORMANCE OF MAGRA LAMBS IN ARID ZONE OF RAJASTHAN

| dc.description.abstract | An attempt was made to assess the effect of different roofing patterns on the growth performance, physiological, and behavioural response of Magra lambs in Arid zone of Rajasthan. The present study was conducted on Eighteen Magra lambs divided into three groups (n=6) T0, T1 and T2 which were kept under Tree, Thatch roof and Tin sheet roof, respectively. The observations recorded in the present study revealed significant (P<0.05) increase in the average daily weight gain (ADG), average weekly weight gain, average monthly weight gain and total body weight gain (P<0.01) in group T1 as compared to other groups. No significant difference was observed in body length, body height and heart girth of experimental lambs among the treatment groups. The effect of different roof patterns on physiological variables of lambs such as rectal temperature and respiration rate was significantly (P<0.01) lower in thatch roof as compared to tin sheet roof and tree, whereas, heart rate and pulse rate differed non significantly.THI was significantly (P<0.01) lower in thatch roof at 9 AM and 3 PM than tree and tin roof. Behavioural activities like feeding, resting and playing differed significantly among the treatment groups in morning. Significant difference (P<0.01) was observed in the feeding, standing, drinking and resting activity among treatment groups during evening. From present study it can be concluded that lambs kept under thatch roof showed higher weight gain efficiency and better behavioural responses without any adverse effect on physiological indices. Thus it can be used as feasible and economic roofing material in arid conditions of Rajasthan. | en_US |
