Abstract
Laboratory studies to see the effect of inoculation of
Rhizobium strain NC 92, Azospirillum lipoferum and
b.' krasilense (alone and in combination) on seed germination
In groundnut caltivars viz., Robut 33-1 and JL 24, in general,
revealed that seed germination was increased due to the
inoculation ranging from 0.67 to 2.00 per cent across the
cultivars over the uninoculateo control.Field studies regarding the effect of Fhizobium (Strain
NC 92) and A. lipof erurn (alone and m combination) inoculation
on r.odulatjon, nitrogen fixation, yield and oil content in
groundnut ciiltivars via., Robut 33-1 and JL 24, in general,
revealed that the inoculation of cultures produced greater
number and dry weight of nodules, plant dry matter weight,
nitrogen content in plants and kernels, N uptake and pod yield
over the uninoculated plots showing the added advantage of
inoculation. However, it was interesting to note that Robut
33-1 and 0L 24 responded well to NC 92 strain inoculation as
compared to the inoculation with A. lipoferum alone or with
combined inoculation. The pod yield due to the inoculation
increased from 3 to 26 per cent in Robut 33-1, while in JL 24
it ranged from 2 -co 27 per cent over their counterpart
uninocuiated control. Efforts w?re also made to type the
nodules formed by NC 92 strain by using ELI5A (Enzyme-Linked
Immuno Sorbent Assay) technique and the results revealed that
maximum NC 92 nodules i.e. o0 per cent was observed in Robut
33-1 due to NC 92 strain while it was 57 per cent in JL 24 due
to inoculation with NC 92 strain plus A. lipo_ferurn. A strong
correlation between nodule dry weight with N content in plants
and kernels, pod \ ield and N uptake could also be established.Frelo scudies to sea trie residual effect of
inoculated ucoundnut cultiv iry on the yield of succeeding
wheat, crop revealed the edded advantage oi the
inoculated treatment over tnc uninoculated control plots
as evidenced by increased grain and straw yield, and
total U uptake in wneat plants. Plots of inoculated
qroundnut cultivars recorded up co 29 per cent additional
grain yield and 15 per cent <?tnw yield in Robut 33-1,
while it was 27 and 16 per cent in JL 2A, respectively.
