Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek] is an important short duration grain Cume which occupies predominantly across the Asian continent. Among various threats in limiting the production of mungbean, pulse beetles (Callosobruchus spp.) are Carious issue of concern particularly in storage conditions. An investigation was carried out to determine the susceptibility status of 117 genotypes of mungbean and their relatives against C. chinensis L. Two bruchids viz., C. chinensis and C. maculatus were observed under natural infested mungbean seeds. Besides, a parasitoid was also observed in the naturally infested mungbean seeds. The studies on biological parameters reveal that the average egg period of C. chinensis was 5 days; larval + pupal period was 22.4 days and total egg to adult period recorded as 27.4 days. Adult male and female longevity were recorded as 8.1 and 10.4 days, respectively. However, preoviposition and oviposition period were observed as 0.6 and 8.2 days, respectively. The fecundity was 79 along with 81 percent hatchability and sex ratio (male: female) was observed as 1: 0.92. The mean development period ranged from 20-34 days and growth index (GI) was recorded in between 0.000-0.099. On the basis of GI, grouping of genotypes showed that two genotypes viz., PRR 2008-2 and PRR 2008-2-Sel and one genotype i.e., TCR 93 fell in to highly tolerant and tolerant category, respectively, and belong to Vigna umbellata. Similarly, moderately tolerant genotypes EC 550831, EC 520024, EC 520026 belong to V. radiata; W 17 and TCR 7 belong to V. stepulacea and V. sublobata, respectively. These genotypes may be utilized as potential donor in the development of highly tolerant varieties against C. chinensis in future breeding programme.en_US
