Investigations on the effect of inorganic, organic and biofertilizers on growth, yield and storage quality of onion bulbs cv. N-2-4-1 were carried out at the Department of Horticulture, Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Rahuri, during the year 1990. Experiment consisted of 13 treatments which were replicated thrice in the randomized block design. The growth of plant was found to be increased by the treatment combinations of inorganic fertilizers + organic manures + biofertilizers and inorganic fertilizers with organic manures. The maximum polar and equatorial diameter of bulbs, percentage of marketable bulbs, topfall and dry matter content of bulbs with the highest yield of 403.33 q/ha were observed in the treatment of 40 t FYM + 75:50:50 kg NPK/ha + biofertilizers. The N, P and K content of onion leaves at the stage of 90 days of growth varied from 0.91 to 2.12, 0.20 to 0.33 and 2.47 to 2.91 per cent respectively as influenced by various nutritional treatments. The treatment of 40 t FYM + 75:50:50 kg NPK/ha + biofertilizers recorded the minimum PLW and total loss while the minimum sprouting loss was observed in the treatment of control (no nutrient supply). The various nutritional treatments did not show any significant effects on rotting losses. It may be concluded that application of organic manures and biofertilizers have revolutionary impact in increasing consumption and efficient use of the mineral fertilizers, coupled with high bulb yield and good storage quality.en_US
