In a study of 23 transition cows, which were screened for hypocalcemia, 6 were found to have subclinical hypocalcemia and 3 were found to have clinical milk fever. The 6 cows with hypocalcemia were also found to have severe negative energy balance. Farmers failed to report for early treatment and all 6 cows eventually developed into clinical ketosis. Point of care urine analysis revealed positive for ketone bodies. Biochemical analysis revealed hypoglycemia and hypocalcaemia. Electrocardiographic assessment showed prolonged QTc and STc interval. Based on clinical examinations and laboratory findings the presented cases were diagnosed as subclinical hypocalcemia exacerbated clinical ketosis.en_US
